Dear one brave fellow doctor

Dear one brave fellow doctor,

How are you?
I heard and read about you on the news and on my friends’ timeline
They said you were sick
And then they said you died
And then they cried for you; they grieved for you, and they put your pictures on social media
They said how sad they were, how you were such a good friend and a brave young fellow
And then your face appeared everywhere on the TV, on the newspaper, and of course you went viral on the internet
Then they started giving statement about you, about how you should’ve not died on that island, and what we should’ve done for you back then
Some people mocked you because of what we—your fellow doctors—did in the past
Some people started whispering hypotheses, and spreading the seeds of doubt
So some of us became enraged, and we started blaming each other and throwing responsibilities
Some of us turned a blind eye and kept ruthlessly defending our profession—the profession they claimed to be the noblest profession in the history…

Dear one brave fellow doctor,

You see? In the end, we have taken the attention for ourselves
We greedily used you to endorse our job, to promote our names, and to feed our ego
In the end, we have forgotten that this should be about you
This should be about you, about your life, about your dreams, about your adventure, about your achievements, about what you had so bravely done in that island
This should be about the time when you were still alive and happy and full of smiles
This should be about you, and we have selfishly taken it from you
This should be about you, and not about the others.

Dear one brave fellow doctor,

I might not know you that well,
But I apologize
For what we have done to you
We—the people who called ourselves your fellow doctors
We—the people who should have preserved the memories about you
We—the people who should learn from you so that one day, we can be as brave as you.

Dear one brave fellow doctor,

You will not be soon forgotten.

Requiescat in pace.
